initial interrogation of jahar tsarnaev

on april 15th, 2013, brothers dzhokhar — often referred to as "jahar" — and tamerlan tsarnaev set off two homemade pressure cooker bombs near the finish line of the 117th boston marathon, killing three people and injuring hundreds more. tamerlan was killed in a police shootout, from injuries sustained after his own brother struck him with the car he escaped in. jahar was apprehended on april 19th, 2013, hiding in a boat in someone's backyard. as a result of a miscommunication, jahar was repeatedly shot by the responding officers, despite being unarmed, and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital upon being taken into police custody. there, he was interrogated, despite being unable to speak as a result of his injuries and having been intubated. he wrote his responses to the officers' questions in a notebook.
